The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), in partnership with the American Public Health Association (APHA), is pleased to announce the 2016 GIS and Health Symposium. The theme for this year’s Symposium is “Mapping the Way to Healthy Communities”. Attend to discuss and share information about the important topics impacting the health of our communities worldwide and how GIS is being used as to facilitate decisions and action.

Jeff Pires has been with National Grid, an international electric & gas utility, for 13 years. Currently a Lead Analyst on the Asset Data & Systems team, Jeff focuses on innovative applications of GIS to asset management and emergency response. He is also the Technical Lead for National Grid’s ArcGIS Online (AGO) organization, which is one of the largest implementations in the world with over 1,500 users.

What brings a utility GIS professional to the URISA Health Symposium? Jeff has been an active GISCorps member for several years, and took a 4-month leave of absence in early 2015 to support the World Health Organization’s Ebola response as a volunteer GIS Consultant in Geneva. Jeff also chairs the newly-formed GISCorps AGO Committee, with the intent to promote and support future GISCorps missions with AGO technology.
