The Effects of Crime and Place
It has long been established that place matters with respect to the opportunity for crime and the response to crime when it occurs. Presentations in this session will explore how geospatial data can provide robust information about the places crime occurs and the sometimes subtle contextual factors that contribute to crime, as well as the resources available to those most vulnerable to its effects.

Making Health Measures Count
GIS-based metrics are assisting communities in developing more targeted healthcare strategies and interventions. This session highlights a publicly available tool developed to compare health metrics related to mortality and morbidity between county, state and national levels and against user-specified thresholds and an analytical approach to use GIS data to generate age-stratified social and medical vulnerability scores and evaluate patterns and interactions between these areas in a multi-county region.

Attendance at this session will offer:
1.0 AICP credits, pending approval
1.0 CPH credits, pending NBPHE approval.

Protecting the Health of Mother and Baby
This session delves into the links between environmental health hazards and variations in birth outcomes such as gestational and birth weights and lengths of pregnancy for women in the U.S. and Canada. Disparities in exposures to key health hazards (air pollution, toxic release sites), built environment factors (access to green space and healthy foods) and birth outcomes by socio-geographic factors are explored.

Attendance at this session will offer 1.0 AICP credits, pending approval.
